Virtually afloat atop lofty cliffs, the Parco dei Principi is a serene reincarnation of the majestic villa and botanical gardens of the Borbonese family. Designed by Gio Ponti in 1962, the hotel still retains the ceramic pebbles, intricate mosaic tiling, Melotti majolica plates, and the remains of the 18th century Sorrento estate. Despite the modern amenities in its 96 guest rooms, one can still hear the echoes of the hotel's aristocratic past, when the likes of Czart Nicholas II once enjoyed a performance by Julie Sedowa, then prima ballerina of the St Petersburg court. Sedowa died in 1978 however her tiny footprints are immortalized in the marble terrace overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.

Here is the article I wrote for FQ Magazine in the Fall of 2006, after having just attended a magnificent wedding at the hotel that summer.
