You arrive by boat (as one should while in Venice) and enter the historic palazzo by the formal porta d'acqua as guests have over the centuries. Then as you sweep into the vast reception, you will need to take a minute to pick up your jaw off the marble floor. This is an Aman Hotel, but not as we know it.
Built in the 16th century, the property was later restored in the 19th century by two brothers who refurbished it into the space it is today: Rococo on steroids. Soaring ceilings with elaborate frescoes, Rubelli-silk wall hangings, Murano chandeliers, ornate stucco, gold everywhere -- and tons of space, which is rare in Venice. This is because the two adjacent buildings were rased down to create two beautiful garden spaces along the Canal Grande, a true 'oasis' or 'aman' (Sanskit for peacefulness) in the middle of the city center.
However the trip down history lane ends once you enter one of their 24 lavishly furbished rooms, each one different and yet all maintaining a similar muted color palette, sleek modern furniture, and magnificent bathrooms with showers as powerful as rainfalls. The contemporary vibe also continues on the roof top patio where you can sip Prosecco on modern loungers while enjoying views of Venice that only the best money can buy.
