TORONTO / Branca Bar

On a random stroll through Toronto's Junction area last weekend, I stumbled upon a new Argentinian spot, Branca, nestled into an old Victorian house.  With a sign in the front that read, ''We have sexy sandwiches and cheap drinks,'' I knew I had to find out what this was all about.  It was a Sunday afternoon and the back garden was packed with lovely people sipping from their excellent selection of wine and picking at gourmet sandwiches with a home-made feel.

I sampled their deep fried eggplant sandwich on a kaiser, as well as their pulled pork sandwich with spicy mayo, and then chased it down with a crisp glass of Cava.  But the main attraction is the selection of meats from the grill - they are grilled on a system of V-shaped grates over hot embers that are raked under from an indirect fire built to the side. The Latin-inspired bar menu is also worth the trip and includes cocktails such as pisco sours and caipirinhas.

Note to dog lovers: they are dog friendly, we had our little Jack Russell hanging out with us in the garden.
