WANT / Comme Des Garcons Pocket Collection

30.9.14

As a huge fan of Comme Des Garcons parfums, I was over-joyed to discover this limited edition collector's box of CDG favorites: CDG2, an energetic mix of ink and vibrant notes; 2man, combining incense white smoke and saffron flowers; Amazinggreen, a blend of gunpowder and spice; and Wonderwood, something a little more wood-like.  There, that's almost one for every day of the week.

PARIS / Les Belles Danses

29.9.14

Glass blower artist Jean-Michel Othoniel has created a three-part glass sculpture with strings of gold leaf that will be installed in the reflecting pools at Versailles' restored Water Theater grove.  Inspired by the ballets of the courts of Louis XIV, the sculpture will sprout water from its gold-leaf glass bubbles, creating a nymph-like choreography of dancing.

For the past two decades, Othoniel has been working with the world's finest glass blowers: in Murano in Venice, Monterrey in Mexico, Sapporo in Japan and Firozabad in India.  He currently has his atelier in the center of the Marais.

NAIROBI / The Giraffe Manor

25.9.14

Home to a herd of the endangered Rothschild giraffe, the Giraffe Manor is one of Nairobi's "must-see" landmarks.  Set in 12 acres of private land within 140 acres of indigenous forest, the Manor's distinct 1930's architecture provides a cozy yet unusual backdrop for what is essentially a giraffe sanctuary.

The founder conservationist, Betty Leslie-Melville, often called the “Giraffe Lady,” spent much of her time protecting the endangered Rothschild giraffe population.  Her legacy has become an unforgettable vacation destination where you can feed giraffe's from your bedroom window while gazing across the Nairobi countryside.

OBSESSED / Glove Shoe by MARTINIANO

23.9.14

I am forever on the hunt for classic, comfortable heels with a twist.  Thank goodness for these 'Glove Shoes" by MARTINIANO, available at MNZstore.com.  With an ever-so-subtle almond toe reminiscent of Dior, but with a toe cleavage that is slightly more squared off (read: more modern), these kid leather Italian-made shoes have a sensible midi block heel that would make any foot very very happy.

TORONTO / Branca Bar

16.9.14

On a random stroll through Toronto's Junction area last weekend, I stumbled upon a new Argentinian spot, Branca, nestled into an old Victorian house.  With a sign in the front that read, ''We have sexy sandwiches and cheap drinks,'' I knew I had to find out what this was all about.  It was a Sunday afternoon and the back garden was packed with lovely people sipping from their excellent selection of wine and picking at gourmet sandwiches with a home-made feel.

I sampled their deep fried eggplant sandwich on a kaiser, as well as their pulled pork sandwich with spicy mayo, and then chased it down with a crisp glass of Cava.  But the main attraction is the selection of meats from the grill - they are grilled on a system of V-shaped grates over hot embers that are raked under from an indirect fire built to the side. The Latin-inspired bar menu is also worth the trip and includes cocktails such as pisco sours and caipirinhas.

Note to dog lovers: they are dog friendly, we had our little Jack Russell hanging out with us in the garden.

KARL / Original Hipster

15.9.14

Thanks to a recent retrospective of sorts done by DAZED, "Karl Through The Ages",  we now have access to some never seen photos of the master during his less-chic style moments before he became the black-and-white fan-bearing Chanel visionnaire.  From eating a Big Mac to sporting what could only be a weight-lifter's onesie, and from wearing a monocole to puckering up like a porn star, here are some very candid moments that prove Karl Lagerfeld was the original hipster (NOTE: heavy bear beard).

SJP / West Village Apartment

11.9.14

Recently Sarah-Jessica Parker and hubby Matthew Broderick re-listed their New York apartment for $22 million.  Located on East 10th Street, the 5 bedroom apartment is surprisingly modern and sparse with 5 fireplaces, a full-floor master suite and a walk-in closet (which is super organized... not alla Carrie Bradshaw).  The highlight is their master suite bathroom with its oversized oval soaker tub that sits in the middle of the room like a half opened egg.

Conde Nast Entertainment plays 73 Q's with Voque's big cheese.  Some favorite nuggets were her take on American humour, spider, her favorite sport (mine too!), broccoli, oh and I promise not to use the word 'journey' anymore.
